Pearls: the birthstone of June

Did you know that pearls are the birthstone of June? Symbolizing purity, innocence and new beginnings, pearls have long been cherished for their timeless beauty and elegant allure. Whether you're celebrating a birthday or simply treating yourself to something special, we have the perfect piece for you.

A brief history

A pearl is the only gemstone formed within a living creature. Pearls have been used in jewelry for thousands of years, and many cultures used them as a status symbol. In Ancient Rome, Julius Caesar passed a law in the 1st century limiting their use to rulers. In Ancient Greece, pearls were believed to be the tears of the goddess Aphrodite.

When explorers traveled through the Americas, they found Native Americans wearing freshwater pearls from the rivers, and so many pearls were exported to Europe that the New World became known as the "Land of Pearls." Then in 1916, Japanese inventor Kokichi Mikimoto developed the technique for culturing perfectly round pearls and is credited with the "invention" of the standard pearls you see today.
